Large monolithic architectural details are something we try
and bring into all our projects, it’s these details that allow us
to be looser with wilder with our planting palettes and for
the outcome to still feel considered. In this case, the benches allowed us to terrace the site creating activated zones to higher use of the functionality.

Each custom landscape is a one of a kind work of art. In this case the new landscape features a curvilinear front walkway, a new semicircular landing at the base of stone staircase with bluestone treads and natural stone veneer. A low stone retaining wall frames the entrance to the mixed evergreen flowering perennial and ornamental grass garden. The scope of work includes a belgian block apron and trench drain for drainage where the driveway meets the garage.

AquaTerra Outdoors was hired to design and install the entire landscape, hardscape and pool for this modern home. Features include Ipe wood deck, river rock details, LED lighting in the pool, limestone decks, water feature wall with custom Bobe water scuppers and more!

A period correct breeze block wall was built as a backdrop to the kitchen view and an industrial charcoal corrugated metal fence completes the leitmotif and creates privacy around the property.

Sinuous Driveway - Acts as the backbone of the garden. Both the lower and upper garden are bordered by Annabelle Hydrangeas and Zelkovas planted along the asphalt driveway making the driveway recede and emphasizing a garden feel to an otherwise functional space.

The flag-shaped lot allowed for a long driveway leading up to the house, offering a nice long driveway with a view of the home’s entry from the street.

We used exposed beach pebble bands to break up the large amount of concrete in this driveway. The pebble is set on a concrete base and set in mortar which makes it very sturdy to drive on. After installed we put a clear sealer over the pebble to make it shine. The concrete has an etched finish which also shows small amounts of aggregate in the finish. This gives the concrete a sanded finish which is a non-slip finish.

The design objective for this six acre ocean view parcel in Montecito was to create a literal replication of an 1800's California hacienda. Four adobe structures define the central courtyard while secondary terraces and walled gardens expand the living areas towards the views and morning light. Simple, rustic details and traditional, handmade materials evoke a lifestyle of a distant era.

The new driveway is designed to be permeable. A cobblestone apron makes a nice transition from public roadway to private drive. The crushed stone drive leads to a parking area paved with permeable concrete paver units.

We completely renovated a simple low-lying house for a university family by opening the back side with large windows and a wrap-around patio. The kitchen counter extends to the exterior, enhancing the sense of openness to the outside. Large overhanging soffits and horizontal cedar siding keep the house from overpowering the view and help it settle into the landscape.
An expansive maple floor and white ceiling reinforce the horizontal sense of space.
